Short Bio
Claire Collins PhD (Public Health Medicine & Epidemiology), MSocSc, BSocSc, Dip Stats. Director of Research & Innovation, Irish College of General Practitioners I have over 25 years of experience conducting and teaching qualitative and quantitative research in the academic, statutory and private sectors and have been the ICGP Director of Research since 2004 with the responsibility for the promotion, development and implementation of research in general practice. My background is in medical sociology, statistics, public health and epidemiology. Many of my current projects centre around service and education needs’ assessments, health services research and evaluation in general practice. I have held previous research posts in private consultancy the Rotunda Hospital Economic and Social Research Institute (ESRI) University College Dublin (UCD) and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) and have lectured in a number of Irish universities. I am a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland and the Irish representative to the European General Practice Research Network (EGPRN). As of May 2016, I am also a member of the EGPRN Executive Board and the Chair of its Research Strategy Committee. I am currently the lead on writing the European General Practice Research Strategy 2020-2029. Nationally, I am the Chair of the ICGP Research Ethics Committee and a member of the Ministerial appointed Health Research Consent Declaration Committee and a member of the steering group of the Irish Primary Care Clinical Trials Network. I am an Associate Editor for BMC Family Practice and a reviewer for a number of journals.
