We hope you are doing well. We’d like to share a short update from our recent EGPRN meeting, held in October 2025 in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.

We enjoyed two excellent keynote lectures on “Empowering the Next Generation of Family Physicians in a Changing Healthcare Landscape.” Keep an eye out for the forthcoming article in the European Journal of General Practice, which will explore ways to strengthen research capacity, support early-career researchers, and reinforce primary care systems across Europe.

We were warmly hosted by the Bulgarian General Practice Society for Research and Education, with the support of the Medical University of Plovdiv. Their organisation was impeccable. This year we welcomed 243 participants from 33 countries, and 106 abstracts were accepted across all sessions.

During the meeting, we also explored opportunities for the next Horizon Europe call, including the potential to prepare joint proposals on primary care. If you are interested in joining these efforts, please feel free to let us know.

The poster prize was awarded to “Artificial Intelligence and Health Equity in Primary Care: A Scoping Review” by Prof. Magda Gavana. As she presented the project, she also identified several promising publication avenues—a very welcome bonus!

Across the sessions, we enjoyed rich discussions on interprofessional collaboration, healthcare in multicultural societies (including communication, shared decision-making, and equity in research), as well as the impact of digital transformation on primary care research, education, and practice. Our two “One Slide, Five Minutes” sessions generated 15 new research ideas, showing once again that our community is thriving with creativity. You can find all event photos here.

The European Journal of General Practice is also currently recruiting and training new peer reviewers—if interested, please contact the journal office.

After such an energising conference, we invite you to browse the photos and begin preparing for our next meeting in Verona, where we will focus on continuity of care. Please start drafting your abstracts—19 January will be the final submission date (no extensions)—and book your travel early, especially as the meeting falls on a holiday in some countries. We look forward to seeing all of you there.

Warmest regards,

EGPRN PR Committee
